Kanban

Visualise work and manage flow across teams

The Kanban Method is a practical, evolutionary approach to managing and improving the flow of work. Rather than a prescriptive framework, it starts with what you do today and helps you improve from there - making work visible, limiting work in progress, and continuously improving how value flows through your organisation. Kanban University certified training covers the full spectrum from foundational system design through to enterprise-scale flow management.

Kanban training courses

Practitioner FlowMgr

Flow Manager (FM)

Learn the specific responsibilities of a Flow Manager within a Kanban-based organisation — monitoring and responding to flow problems across a whole system, not just within a single team. You'll use visualisation and metrics to have productive conversations with both teams and leadership, manage demand, capacity and prioritisation across multiple concurrent teams, and resolve the systemic blockers no single team can fix alone. Built for managers and team leads directly accountable for cross-team delivery performance, this practical course carries Kanban University certification.

Practitioner KMP1

Kanban System Design (KMP 1)

Learn to design a Kanban board that genuinely reflects how work moves through your team — visualising states, queues, hand-offs and bottlenecks, and understanding why constraining work in progress actually improves flow rather than restricting it. You'll cover the Kanban cadences (which meetings to run, how often, and what to address in each), how to introduce explicit policies that reduce confusion, and how to bring a sceptical team on board without triggering resistance. KMP1 is Kanban University's foundational certification, built for anyone moving from an ad hoc task board to a properly designed flow-based system.

Advanced KMP2

Kanban System Improvement (KMP 2)

Use flow metrics — cycle time, throughput, and work item age — to diagnose exactly where an existing Kanban system is breaking down, then evolve WIP limits and policies based on evidence rather than guesswork. You'll learn to run a Service Delivery Review that turns data into productive stakeholder conversations, use Monte Carlo simulations for probabilistic forecasting, and read cumulative flow diagrams to catch problems before they become crises. Built for KMP1 holders whose Kanban system has been running for a while and is ready for systematic, evolutionary improvement, KMP2 is Kanban University's advanced certification.

Practitioner ESK

Enterprise Scale Kanban (ESK)

Design a Kanban system that spans multiple teams, departments and value streams, managing the flow of strategic work from idea through to delivery without imposing heavy process on individual teams along the way. You'll learn Portfolio Kanban, how Flight Levels thinking connects strategy, coordination and operational delivery, and how to run portfolio-level reviews that produce genuine decisions rather than status theatre. Built for leaders and KMP2 holders ready to apply Kanban principles at portfolio and enterprise level, ESK is Kanban University's certification for flow-based scaling.
